TCU Place has an exciting opportunity as Director of Finance. This position directly manages the accounting, budgeting, payroll and financial processes for TCU Place, with strategic direction for in-house technology and across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs and controls effective accounting, financial management and financial reporting systems in a timely and accurate manner by ensuring account reconciliation, review and analysis occurs regularly.
  • Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices, including all Provincial acts and regulations and the financial policies and practices of both the City of Saskatoon and TCU Place.
  • Coordinates all external audit activity with the external auditors and the Audit Committee.
  • Researches and prepares the annual operating and capital budget submission information and maintains budget control including forecasts throughout the year.
  • Oversees computer network operations including accounting, office, Event Management, POS, and Box Office systems. Develops and recommends improvement plans.
  • Manages assigned staff; hires, assigns work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary and performs layoff and recall. Plans and approves staff development. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
  • Manages payroll for the facility, through City of Saskatoon.
  • Prepares, analyzes and interprets financial statements, statistics, etc. for the Board of Directors, including presenting monthly financial reports and ensuring Board proceedings function efficiently.
  • Provides staff, and senior management, with analytical, research and advisory services related to both current and long term financial strategies for TCU Place.
  • Manages all box office contracts and cash controls.
  • Ensures liquor and concession inventory is purchased, stored, sold and returned efficiently.
  • Administers requests from external sources such as City of Saskatoon or Canadian Convention Centres for specific information. Acts as a liaison with these organizations.
  • Searches for opportunities to generate new revenues and/or decrease expenditures in all areas of operations, including grant applications, and government funding opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in related discipline plus completion of a professional Canadian accounting designation; i.e. CPA.
  • Six to nine years’ progressively responsible experience in accounting, auditing and/or financial administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal contracts and agreements.
  • Ability to provide leadership and consultation through problem-solving, consensus-building, stakeholder involvement and dialogue.
  • Ability to direct and support staff in achieving desired results.
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively in oral and written form to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of civic personnel, external agencies and the public.
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of a computer with Microsoft Office, AccPac for Windows, SAP and Ungerboeck.
