Remember when we thought 2020 would go down in history? Well, 2021 came along and did its thing, too—it was like the year that wouldn’t end. The same rang true for us here at TCU Place.

At one point, things were looking great! Masking went away for a while and businesses started to return to ‘normal’, but then when Saskatchewan COVID numbers rose dramatically in September, we had a quick closure.

Thanks to dedicated staff members, wonderful clients, and some accolades, awards, upgrades, and celebrations, 2021 was a remarkable year overall. Let’s do a year in review!

TCU Place Made Several Upgrades in 2021

We had the pleasure of adding a few new features to our facility. In addition to upgrading the lobby, we also improved the sound in the salon. Our WiFi has been upgraded all around the building, which helps both our staff and guests stay connected. And while not directly client-facing, we got new systems for booking, payroll, and finances that will help us serve the community even better. We’re proud of these accomplishments.

2021 Saw Numerous Events Take Place At TCU

We saw quite a few folks make their way here, from luncheons to award ceremonies, parties to conferences.

We were thrilled to welcome the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra back to their home stage earlier this year. Their harmonies filled every corner of the theatre. Duelling Pianos also made a comeback, with 700 people enjoying the show.

Over 850 people attended the World Financial Group conference in August – our largest conference this year! On October 21, the 2021 SABEX awards took place on the Sid Buckwold Stage. Many organizations, from entrepreneurs to community groups, took home prizes.

We also planned and presented Saskatoon’s inaugural Electric Vehicle Expo – a free event for the community aligned with SASK EV and National Drive Electric Week. It will return in 2022!

TCU Place partnered with SaskTel Centre to bring the first ever digital and immersive art exhibit to Saskatoon celebrating the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh. More than 50,000 people’s lives got a little bit richer as young and old experienced the exhibit.

We hosted nuptials from small intimate celebrations for 75 people to large scale and lavish weddings for 650 attendees. There was a lot of love to celebrate this year!
In addition to our regular events, TCU Place was also a distribution centre for self-administered rapid COVID tests on more than one occasion.

As we near the end of the year, the 2021 holiday season has been a busy one at TCU Place! We were the home for CKOM’s Adopt-A-Family again this year, brightening the lives of over 400 families. We hosted a 500 attendee holiday event—a great mix of small businesses, families, and friends. A free ELF screening took place for 500 children and kids at heart.

What We Celebrated at TCU in 2021

From start to finish, 2021 was an overall year of growth. We received the Global BioRisk Advisory Council Gold Star Accreditation in early January and recertified it for 2022!

We invested in our team and hired some incredible new members to the fold. Even with this year’s ups and downs, we have learned to be more adaptable, patient, and accepting of last-minute changes than ever before, while still being able to dream big about the future.

And perhaps most important of all—not one occurrence of COVID came from our multiple events. This is a fact we’re beyond thankful and proud for, as we work tirelessly to keep everyone within our halls safe and healthy.

So we bid adieu to 2021, taking all of the incredible lessons learned and the strength developed through sheer grit, something that will continue into 2022 and beyond.
