Tammy Sweeney, CEO & Executive Director, TCU Place

At a recent meeting of the City of Saskatoon’s Governance & Priorities Committee, a motion was approved to advance discussions toward a potential future merger between TCU Place and SaskTel Centre. The motion will be brought forward to City Council for a full vote later this month.
This proposed merger is not about fixing a problem.
Both organizations are strong, successful, and well run, and each plays an important role in Saskatoon’s cultural, economic, and community life. This conversation is about leveraging the best of two strong organizations and making them even better together.
The discussion also connects to broader City conversations about how Saskatoon’s major event and entertainment assets can be supported over the long term, including planning work related to the Downtown Event & Entertainment District. While that work is separate and continues to evolve, exploring opportunities for greater alignment between TCU Place and SaskTel Centre helps ensure both organizations are positioned to operate as efficiently, sustainably, and collaboratively as possible, regardless of future outcomes.
If approved, the merger would focus on shared services and governance efficiencies in areas such as finance, marketing, HR, IT, security, executive leadership, and systems integration. Both facilities would continue to operate independently day to day, serving distinct audiences, events, and purposes. Front line roles and most operational positions are expected to remain unchanged.
If City Council approves the motion, City Administration would lead governance and legal work throughout 2026, with a potential merger launch targeted for early 2027. Representatives from both Boards and leadership teams would work collaboratively to help shape the structure of a combined organization.
TCU Place is strong. Our team is strong. Our business is sound, both financially and operationally. This work is about building on success and ensuring Saskatoon’s event and entertainment venues continue to serve our city, our community, and our partners well into the future.
